Probabilistic aspects of critical phenomena∗

To be definite we shall consider the problem of critical fluctuations with the purpose of illustrating their relevance in the analysis of other difficult problems like field theory.

Time Asymptotics for a Critical Case in Fragmentation and Growth-Fragmentation Equations

Fragmentation and growth-fragmentation equations is a family of problems with varied and wide applications. This paper is devoted to the description of the long-time asymptotics of two critical cases of these equations, when the division rate is constant and the growth rate is linear or zero. The study of these cases may be reduced to the study of the following fragmentation equation: ∂ ∂t u(t,...

Dynamical aspects of fragmentation

In this short communication we address the problem of reducibility in a highly excited Lennard-Jones system. We show that the probability of emitting n fragments can be described in terms of a single probability through the binomial expression. However, the Arrhenius law does not hold and the process can be viewed as a mixture of sequential and simultaneous fragmentation events.

Aspects of International Fragmentation

This paper uses a specific-factors model incorporating two sectors, in order to explore the efficiency and distributional consequences of international disintegration of production. The economy faces a neighboring region where the wage rate is lower than obtaining in the domestic economy under integrated production, which gives rise to an incentive for outsourcing. Assuming that outsourcing is ...

Long-time Asymptotics for Nonlinear Growth-fragmentation Equations

We are interested in the long-time asymptotic behavior of growth-fragmentation equations with a nonlinear growth term. We present examples for which we can prove either the convergence to a steady state or conversely the existence of periodic solutions. Using the General Relative Entropy method applied to well chosen self-similar solutions, we show that the equation can “asymptotically” be redu...
